Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into a family of actors and filmmakers, both occupations which she has herself been pursuing. In 1985 she made her acting debut in Sergio Citti's Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 the film of Michele Soavi's The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played in the role of Cristina Comencini's Zoo. Red Wood Pigeon, directed by Moretti in 1989, was her part in the role of Nanni Moretti's young daughter. Close Friends, written and directed Michele Placido in 1992, was where Asia's career took off. After playing the role of young girl roles, she went on to play more complex and more mature roles. This movie received a positive review in the Cannes International Film Festival. She has made three films with her dad, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome, and Phantom of opera. The Phantom of the Opera is a film that was created by her late father and is the final of three films she's acted in. The other two were Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni employed her deeply absorbed and intense style of acting in Condannato, a nozze. Patrice Chereau was the director. Queen Margot in which she played a crucial part. She worked again with Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, giving her a second David di Donatello as well as a Grolla D'oro. Asia took up directing as a career in 1994. The first film she directed was Prospettive. The documentary she wrote about her father followed by Abel/Asia (1998), a film which won an award at the Rome Film Festival and was the two films she directed between 1996 and 1998. Asia started directing her first feature film in 1999 with Scarlet Diva (2000). The film also featured her as the principal actor, as well as the writer of the film's script. In May 2000, the film was made available both in Italy and across the world. The film won awards at the Williamsburg Festival in Brooklyn, New York. After directing a number of music videos and giving birth, she welcomed her first child, Anna Lou. In 2002 Asia appeared as a character in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action thriller, which was directed by Vin Diesel. Asia is also the author of a number of short stories which have been published in some of the most prestigious magazines.
